THE MUSIC

4Series first began life in Wolverhampton, England in the late 90s with the four key members of Thomas 'Tomcat' Dewey, Richard 'Wozza' quote Warren, Paul Manasseh and Christopher 'Carlton' Dewey. The group is a collective and each member brings different skills to the fold. Influences stretch way beyond just reggae, the group drawing from rock, hip hop, electronica and jazz to create the soundscape you hear on Fire in the Skies.

STUDIO

Fire in the Skies was recorded at Sam Sharpe Studios in Wolverhampton, a hot bed for musical creativity in the city and was produced by 4Series alongside producer Keith Spock Dilworth. The track was recorded in layers on the following equipment: -

Drums sequenced using Cubase
Fostex Digital Delay Unit - Delay
Yamaha Mutli Effect Unit - Reverb
2 x Drawmer Compression Units
Trace Elliot SMC 512 Bass Amplifier Direct XLR output
Sessionette Guitar amp through AKG C1000s microphone
Korg Trinity Synthesiser
A selection of microphones including:
Rode NT1 for lead vocals and melodica (recorded in vocal booth)
Shure SM58 for backing vocals
AKG C1000s for ambience
Pioneer 555-RW CDRW standalone recorder

All instruments (except drum track) and vocals recorded live.

Once the track was built up, it was then deconstructed and mixed on the day of the session live by 4Series, with no overdubs straight from the master tape onto CDR.
