Producer Profile
Track 9: DANCE A YARD (featuring Steve Machete)

Daniel Bosshard aka The Interruptor lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland. His music ranges from Ragga to Drum & Bass with a strong affinity to the sound of seventy's DUB music. Further ingredients in his unique aproach to dance music are latin, jazz and sometimes house.

"I started in the mid-eighties with a Fostex 4-Track recorder, a bass guitar, my mom's piano, my Saxophone and an incredibly shitty sounding drum machine from Mattel (yes, the toy manufacturer!) I also used my dad's two-track reel-tape to generate echoes (I still use that tape today in almost every track because nothing beats the sound of a tape delay)".

"At that time I mainly did Dub because there simply were no vocalists in reach for me. What really inspired me then were artists like Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Pablo Moses, Culture, .. In '88 I got more and more into exploring new sounds and creating my own soundscapes. A breakthrough was when I started to work as an electrical engineer in 95, since this put me in the position to afford the equipment needed to realize my vision: Bringing together irresistible beats with a warm sound combining elements of the pre-digital age with the possibilites of nowadays digital sound processing techniques (like cutting a sound in pieces on a hard disk recording system then reassemble the bits in different order, reversing and time stretching)

I made my first trip to Jamaica recently. I met a lot of talented and some famous artists at the Caveman Studio. Among them Sizzla, Jah Cure, Glen Ricks, Million Teeth and many others. After a few days of auditions and negotiations we recorded 5 songs on the riddims I brought form Zurich. The involved artists were: Marc Wonder, Steve Machete, Muma Leck, Calalooman, EQ's and Danny Dread.

Looking back at the time I spent in Jamaica I realize that I hardly new anything about Jamaican lifestyle and mentality before. It is amazing that you can listen to jamaican music for half of your life, go to all reggae dances and concerts in your area, play in reggae bands for years and still don't have a clue what jamaica is like until you are there yourself...

My main influences in my music are King Tubby's old dub recordings, Rocker's Hifi, More Rockers, Manasseh, Dancehall Reggae (Mad House, Shocking Vibes, King Jammy's), latin music like Salsa and Bachata, Son (old Cuban music), French House (Motorbass, Etienne de Crecy), Speed Garage (a lot of it is shit, but there are some real Gems too!), Big Beat (mostly the dark, junglistic sounding variety)

Apart from the Interruptors work as part of the Dub Funk Association collective Daniel has released tracks for compilations on different labels and a 7-Inch single entitled "Madrugada + The Return of Sleng" (Xtra Rec, Zurich) he is currently working on his own debut album "Mosquitos and Electrons" which will feature guest performances by jamaican singers/DJs Marc Wonder, Steve Machete, Spectacular, Mumaleck, Calalooman, EQ's and Candyman.
