Roots of Dub Funk - 'Hustlers Choice', 'Natty Dread Kung Fu', Hard Back Youth' and 'City of Angels Dub'

Kelvin RichardsWhat is the Dub Funk Association?

The DFA is a loose collective, a musical consortium, a group of friends making conscious Dub/Reggae/Downtempo music. The Dub Funk Association takes chances, they experiment and most importantly they are lovers and practitioners of the 70's Jamaican roots dub sound. But with a twist!

Many of the members come from all over the globe where they have been deeply involved in Reggae based music for years playing in bands or as solo artists and sound systems.

They are well known to those "in the know" and they're consistent releases have already brought them an ever expanding buzz following the "Sounds of the Heavyweight" (TNTYCD 005) release. Which stands as captivating, experimental and as forward thinking as any dub/downtempo/reggae album that as has come out in a long time.

Kelvin R comes back on "ROOTS OF DUB FUNK" with his own compositions under the 'Dub Funk Association' umbrella. Combining Stripped down 'one drop' dub ("Hustlers Choice") through to zany Hip-Hop 'out of the park' dubwize madness ("Natty Dread Kung Fu") to melodic conscious dance-dub ("City of Angles Dub and "Hard Back Youth").

The Studio has since had a bit of a re-fit and includes a 32-channel desk (64 channels on mix down) and some out board bits and bobs, (still using the old Atari for sequencing though!).

Every year the sounds and styles that the DFA have been producing and releasing on record since 1992 are being increasingly heard on many of today's dub based tracks that are being produced, released and sold all over the world. It is a good feeling to know that the DFA and Tanty Records are not alone in pushing forward the boundaries of 'DUB' music.

With a forthcoming 'vinyl only' album due from the DFA this year (BLACK CITY DREAD" TNTYLP 007) composing some more music for Television programs (two commissions broadcast already) and another full DFA CD album to follow, the studio pressure is on the increase!
