DIGITALDUBS SOUNDSYSTEM (Brazil)

ROOTS OF DUB FUNK 5 - Track 11 - "D' OXUM DUB"

THE MUSIC

DIGITALDUBS SOUND SYSTEM is the first sound system in Rio de Janeiro specialized in reggae and dub. It started in 2000 when MPC promoted, inside a second-hand vinyl shop in Copacabana, a small free party that soon became the talk-of-the-town. After that he met Nelson Meirelles, a long time reggae musician and producer, and Cristiano Dubmaster, a selector involved with the Brasilian Black Movement.

The next year they spent gathering more material and hosting a internet radio program, while making some parties here and there. In the beginning of 2003 they realized that setting up their own studio for creating their own sounds would be the natural next step.

Right now, DIGITALDUBS has a weekly sound-system night in Rio where they receive special guests from many parts of the world. At the studio - named Muzambinho -they are producing the wickedest reggae, dub and dancehall tunes made in Brasil.

The tune released in "Roots of dub Funk 5" - D'Oxum Dub - brings a UK digital roots rythm combined with some nyahbingi accents, topped with religious Afro-Brasillian chants.
