| Finn the Giant Roots of Dub Funk 2 - 'The Giant Attacks' FINN THE GIANT: Finn Stillerud from SWEDEN According to an old Swedish legend, a giant called Finn tried to wreck the church he had spent weeks to build when he found out that he wouldn't get paid by the monk that had engaged him. Now the giant has returned to take back what is rightfully his, and he deals with music just like he dealt with the church - builds it up by the foundation and then dismantling it back to its components! Finn Stillerud a.k.a. Finn The Giant has been making dub reggae music for the last seven years, and still tries to reach deeper into the core of this music by focusing on the drum and the bass. With a heavy drum riddim and a thunderous bass line each song stands on a solid foundation. The Music Some of his works include remakes of traditional Swedish songs, where the melancholy of the Scandinavian melodies conspires with heavy Jamaican-style riddims and mixing techniques. I always try to find a balance in my music, it could be between a rough drum riddim and a sweet melody or between a rootsy baseline and a warped melody. There has to bee some tension or some discrepancy to keep the music interesting. During 2002 Finn The Giant is recording and mixing new material with his long-time musical partner The Sand monk that will result in a full-length album scheduled to come out this year. Inspiration within the genre reach from Studio One classics and early deejay music, through the roots and rockers era with producers like Augustus Pablo, Keith Hudson and Vivian Jackson and of course dub makers like King Tubby and Lee Perry, to early 80īs rub-a-dub.
