ROOTS OF DUB FUNK 6: Track 9 - "DUB FROM CREATION"

THE MUSIC

"McPullish is the rare type of solo artist whose sound is usually mistaken for a live band. Guitar, bass, drums, keys, synths and percussion are all played by Carson Hoovestol and overdubbed in live studio takes, sometimes with guests on vocals and horns. Mixes are performed LIVE in the hands-on dub tradition, using the mixing board and electronics as the primary instruments onstage along with a Mac laptop. Mutes and fades drop whole sections of the music in and out, while the songs are reshaped with reverb, echo, phaser, filters, other sound modules and pure dub alchemy. Songs transform into something new each time. McPullish does not use records or samples of other music and is NOT a DJ. This is real music played by a human being on real instruments.

Heavy dub, reggae, ambient and electronic music come together with a wide range of other ingredients making a unique and flavorful dub stew.

McPullish and his label Charlie’s Records relocated near Austin TX in 2006, closing Studio Krameria in Denver CO and setting up shop at the new Dub Compound studio, surrounded by green pastures and wildlife.

"Dub From Creation" was originally released as a 7" with an alternate dub on the B side and is still available in limited quantities. The song was recorded and mixed from a four track tape machine and without any use of the Mac. The melody was inspired by a dusty old organ picked up at a thrift shop for $30 american dollars. The drums were pitch-shifted on tape giving them a surreal quality. The mix of "Dub From Creation" heard on "Roots of Dub Funk 6" was the first take and made up for any imperfections with it's strong overall vibe.

McPullish has just released a new 7" on Charlie's Records with deejay Red Lion on vocals.
The tune is called "Zion High" and is available from Tanty Records online and finer shops worldwide."
