The Pendulum Version
If you're looking for polished, sterile, sonic perfection, do not listen to this album! If however, you wish to listen to musical ideas which nave been born out of the naive desire to make fresh challenging music which stands up to repeated plays, then welcome to our world. This release is not just the follow up to the well received debut album by 'The Dub Funk Association- 'Raise The Dub', its a sonic exploration of the influences which have crossed the path of the DFA over the years. Although paying homage to the glorious past of dub pioneers, King Tubby and Prince Jammy. 'The Pendulum Version' will just as easily use chunky hip hop beats and the stuttering bass and break cuts of today's jungle music. An album with it's foundations firmly rooted in dub, but it's not a Dub Album. It has the spacial qualities of ambience, but it's not an Ambient Album. It has the erratic idiosyncracies of techno, but its not a Techno Album. Kelvin R, the driving force behind the DFA believes the album has Reggae, Dance and even Ambient qualities, but not of the 15 minute whale noise variety? Light rolling drum beats below pianos and horns have the desired effect to create an ambience of its own, without being formless. Four years ago Kelvin believed that a track such as 'Justice Dub's' eclectic nature of sparodic vocals underpinned by a sturdy hip/hopelectro beat would have made people miss the point. Now the muscial barriers are down, and the DFA fit nicely into a world of it's own.
