Roots
of Dub Funk 6 -
variations on a dub theme
Album sleeve notes: Where are the Roots of Dub Funk? In exploring the genre of 'dub' the one thing that makes it so exciting and continually interesting is the fact that there really are no rules. Those that try to create a 'standard' dub fare are quickly consigned to sidelines as their sound becomes stale, dated and formulaic. On volume 6 of our dub series we find ourselves much more in the land of musical pieces than just tricky sonic soundscapes. Are they dubby? Of course they are! The only guiding hand that does apply is that they are forward looking 'deconstructions' of reggae influenced tracks in no small way inspired by the sound system 'big speaker box' culture and experiences of yesterday and today. The UK vibe is strong again so we continue to give props to some of our more 'adventurous' UK dub producers. Hang on though, things are stirring elsewhere! France, USA, Italy, Germany and Poland are represented in this the only surviving contemporary dub series showcasing the latest works of dub producers from all over the world. The "Roots of Dub Funk" are in dub! Nuff Said, Enjoy. Kelvin.
